How To Organise Your Nail Polish Collection - Nail Fan

At the beginning of my nail polish collection I used nail wheels to swatch my colors. But with time that got pretty annoying since my collection grew faster and I couldn't sort the wheels by color. So I stopped swatching until this week. You might ask yourself, why I did it in the first place. Swatching on plastic makes it really easy to pick a color for a design or to search for dupes and compare colors.

So I decided to start all over again and ordered something awesome on Ebay. It's called nail fan and consists of plastic nails on a flat stick with a screw to hold them together. They're sold for about 3$ per 50 pieces and I got myself 200 pieces to start with. They're available in clear and white, so you can choose your preferred base for the nail polish. I used 2 coats of each color and for my flakies etc. I used a black base to display them properly.

Then I wrote the name and brand of each color onto the stick with a black marker. I have done 50 colors until now and hope to have my whole collection displayed soon. What I have to figure out now is how I'm going to sort them. I will probably go for color grading because it looks prettier. I have them sorted by brand in my Helmer, so I can look them up without searching too much.

How do you organise your nail polish?

  1. I thought about getting these and now I will! :D I swatch all my colors on nail wheels and like you said, it's getting really annoying because you can't sort them by color. I have them sorted by brand in my racks and I will sort them by color on the plastic ;) Thanks for this post! ;)

  2. Da ich noch unter 100 Flaschen besitze, habe ich eigentlich noch kein Nagelfächer benötigt, aber irgenwann muss ich mir auch mal einen kaufen :D.

  3. Funny! I bought the same fake nails from the same seller and I'm doing it at the moment. I already painted all my OPI, Essie, and China Glaze. I need to finish the other brands!

  4. This is a great idea! I have nail wheels which I do swatch by colour but I have a much smaller collection.

  5. That's exactly what I've done; LOVE the fans. I have mine sorted by color, with the color shifting top coats separate (need more screw rods!). Great minds... ; )

  6. I went the same route like you! Started with nail wheels, got another style of nail wheels and did it all over again, and now I finally got nailsticks. I'm on helmer drawer 6 out of 7, and my living room looks like a mess with all the drying nailsticks :)

  7. Very pretty! I have white Helmers too :D I sort mine my colours... the top drawer is glitters, second is pinks/reds/yellows/oranges/nudes, third is blues/greens, fourth is purples/blacks/whites/greys/metallics (like gold, bronze, silver, coloured metallics go in their colour drawer) and then the bottom two drawers are supplies like polish remover, cotton pads, my nail art wheels, top coats/base coats and my 24 set of 2-way nail art polishes from bornpretty!
